Greta Thunberg slams world leaders for their "Blah, blah, blah"; for their talking big without actually taking effective climate change action.
She tells them:
“We must change almost everything in our current societies.
The bigger your carbon footprint - the bigger your moral duty.
The bigger your platform - the bigger your responsibility.
Adults keep saying: 'We owe it to the young people to given them hope.'
But I don't want your hope.
I don't want you to be hopeful.
I want you to panic.
I want you to feel the fear I feel every day.
And then I want you to act.
I want you to act as you would in a crisis.
I want you to act as if our house is on fire.
Because it is.”

“We are about to sacrifice our civilization for the opportunity of a
very small number of people to continue to make enormous amounts of
money. We are about to sacrifice the biosphere so that rich people in
countries like mine can live in luxury. But it is the sufferings of the
many which pay for the luxuries of the few.”
And she follows up with this condemnation of those in power:
“To all of you who choose to look the other way every day because you
seem more frightened of the changes that can prevent catastrophic
climate change than the catastrophic climate change itself. Your silence
is almost worst of all.”
This is her programme of action for us who are not the people in power:
“The climate crisis is both the easiest and the hardest issue we have
ever faced. The easiest because we know what we must do. We must stop
the emissions of greenhouse gases. The hardest because our current
economics are still totally dependent on burning fossil fuels, and
thereby destroying ecosystems in order to create everlasting economic
growth.”
“Hope doesn't come from words. Hope only comes from actions.”
“Avoiding climate breakdown will require cathedral thinking. We must lay
the foundation while we may not know exactly how to build the ceiling.”
“So we can’t save the world by playing by the rules. Because the rules
have to be changed. Everything needs to change. And it has to start
today. So everyone out there: it is now time for civil disobedience. It
is time to rebel.”
